Got the 740 running again. A replacement of the power stage, unhooking the capacitor from the coil and she runs like a top again. Now to go back to the usual Volvo obsession, spending money on 122 parts, etc.

Heeey, a 740 owner...is yours turbo or N/A? We used to have a N/A sedan and a turbo manual wagon, those were interesting times...

Mine is a N/A manual sedan, although I've also had a turbo manual sedan and a turbo, automatic wagon... And a brown, manual 245... And a green, automatic 245... And a manual S60, and currently, alongside the manual, N/A 740, a manual Amazon wagon.

Awesome, Volvos are great in general...now all we have is an '01 V70 (FWD, Auto, T5, boring)
